Łódź

Von Freitag bis Sonntag war ich in Łódź und habe meine gute Freundin Magda besucht, die ich während meines FSJ in Köln kennen gelernt habe. Wir haben viel gequatscht, waren im Kino und sind spazieren gegangen. Es war ein tolles Wochenende! :-)
Łódź an sich gehört vielleicht nicht zu den Top-Touristenzielen in Polen, es ist aber trotzdem eine interessante Stadt mit einer interessanten Geschichte - und die drittgrößte Polens. Während der industriellen Revolution wurde aus dem winzigen Dorf in Windeseile eine Großstadt errichtet, die viele Jahrzehnte lang die Zentrale der Tuchfabrikation des Landes sein sollte. Deutsche, Juden, Russen und Polen lebten und arbeiteten hier zusammen. Die alten Fabriken, Arbeiterwohnhäuser und Villen der Fabrikbesitzer sind heute noch in der Innenstadt zu sehen:


From Friday until Sunday I visited my good friend Magda in Łódź. (We lived together during my volunteer service in Cologne.) It was a great weekend! :-) We talked a lot, went into the cinema and went for walks.
Łódź itself might not be one of the top-touristattractions of Poland, but it is an interesting city with an interesting history - and the third-biggest in the country! During the Industrial Revolution, the tiny village quickly turned into the country´s centre of the textile industry. Germans, Jews, Russians and Poles lived and worked together. The old factories, working-class quarters and villas of the factory owners can still be seen in the citycentre:

Ein riesiges Fabrikgelände, das am Verfallen war, wurde vor ein paar Jahren saniert und ist jetzt das größte Einkaufs- und Erlebniszentrum Polens, "Manufaktura":

 Am Samstag sind wir auf den städtischen Friedhof gegangen, wo auch deutsche und russische Gräber aus dem 19. Jahrhundert stehen und man die monumentalen Grabstätten der Fabrikbesitzer bestaunen kann:

Vor dem Friedhof werden künstliche Blumen und riesige Kerzen verkauft - in front of the cemetary, artificial flowers and gigantic candles are sold

Und nächstes Wochenende steht schon das nächste Abenteuer an: ich werde einige andere Comeniusassistenten in Wroclaw/ Breslau treffen, juhu! :) And next weekend the next adventure is waiting: I´m going to meet other Comenius-assistants in Wroclaw/ Breslau, yeah! :)
